I was wondering and have used the search button, about what and where to buy a clearcoat for my vht niteshade. I am about to do my taillights and have looked around here, I have seen that in order to get a real clean good look to put a clear coat on it? How many layers? Just one? and where to get it? thanks for ya help!
use as much clear as you need to make them look good (@!#$ty answer i know)
my advice try 2 layers of clear...wet sand...then see how they look

you want a smart ass answer or a real one lol
they make "special" sand paper (it is generally black) just keep it wet as hell and sand smoothly

You DO NOT NEED CLEAR COAT..Spray on about 2 to 3 coats of it..Let it dry,Then take a Fine cut polish,And start to polish the lens..It will take some time but the out come is great..When you spray on the first coat it will not look dark..But as it dries it will go darker. So dont go nuts spraying whole bunch on..Here is a pic of mine..No clear used..Best of luck..

get wet/dry sandpaper from any home depot, autozone, lowes, etc etc.
it will say on the package wet/dry. use a little can(like coffee can or something) full of water, and keep dunking it in while sanding. the water plus high grit sandpaper will give a nice smooth appearance.
then i would polish like Jason mentioned
