So, after reading some posts I decided to paint the valve cover on my 2.4 Twin Cam. I bought the paint, the degreaser etc. Then I took the 4 bolts out and when I lifted it to my surprise (I have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever Im learning everyday) the cover was not just a cover...
I got scared and installed it back, covered the engine bay with tape and paper and painted it inside the engine bay. Now after reading some more posts I read that if you open the valve cover you need to replace the head gasket. Obviously I did not change it. Then I started reading some information about the head gasket and found that if you damage it then there are several problems that can happen.
Did I just screw my engine or there is nothing for me to worry about?
Sorry if the question is too basic or stupid but Im a chemical engineer trying to learn by myself about cars. Most of the times I learn about what I just screwed up lol but since I found this site I stopped screwing my car TOO MUCH.

It's not a valve cover it's an IDI cover. I doubt you screwed up anything.

You are fine. The white bits under the IDI cover is your ignition. It just pulls right off the spark plugs and the other small black thing is your computer and it is just two allen screws to get that off. But sounds like you did it already.
