Prelude Headlight Measurement?!
Wednesday, January 07, 2009 8:34 AM
Hey guys, I was wondering does any one know the measurements for a 97-01 Honda Prelude headlight? I thought about doing a headlight swap since the shape is somewhat similar to the sunfire headlight. I just want to know the measurements and plan ahead before I go through with it. I searched on the internet and couldn't find any for those years, I found the earlier models but they're to different. Thanks for your time guys. Also I was thinking of using this style.

why do a headlight swap to something that looks almost identicle?

weather its the same shape or not, its still going to need custom brackets to mount it and everything.

yeah, a lot of work for an undramatic result.

sounds like fail to me.

A way to save this from being a fail would be if you like the style of those prelude headlights on ebay, buy them and then retrofit them into your housing,
and add a clear lense.
That would be unique and look real good since there are no ready to buy projector headlights for sunfires...

I understand the work involved.... I would gladly buy the headlights and do a retro fit, but that would actually cost me more than buying them and installing them. Mainly because I have a lot of fiberglass and can get the fitting done in a day or so, then sand the surrounding area, fill and prime.

I just really would like to know the measurements of the factory light, I'm trying to keep the evil eyes on my sunfire... I can't do the traditional custom projector headlights because they won't pass VA inspection because there's no stamp on the clear lens. So buying a set of factory lights or finding some similar in shape is what i'm going for.... I thought about the RX-7 projector lights but I won't be able leave the evil eyes.

how exactly would it cost more to do a retro than a conversion?

and you're planning to fiberglass to metal for this conversion? good luck, bad idea

I would just do a retro as mentioned, and keep your stock headlights for inspection time.

Where did the me glassing to metal come in to play? I'm not fiber glassing to metal, I'm a little more experienced than that. The only reason it would cost more to retro is because my headlights are broken and I have currently a lot of fiberglass and resin. I might just end up paying for the factory lights and call it quits. All I wanted to know is the measurements of a factory Prelude light, I understand what work it involves as well as what work a retro fit involves.

thats what i was going to mention but even there i doubt you'll get exact dimensions. if you are already planning to fiberglass a bit, i would just get the headlights then and go to work. hardest part is going to be wiring them.

thanks for the input guys... i might go to a junk yard and get a cheap headlight just to get measurements since it will be more accurate that way... Depending on how it will look I will either buy new stock ones, retro, or do a conversion. Thanks a lot.

like John said, easiest way will prolly be to go to a honda site like honda-tech or the like. they should be able to get you measurements.

beats traveling out into the cold junkyard.
