Light bar holes (filling)
Sunday, September 06, 2009 1:28 PM
Im looking to take the ugly stock light bar off of my 03 cav. And seeing as i cant find a decent trunk lid anywhere near me. i was wondering.

Can the holes for the light bar be effectively filled with fiberglass resin? I am confident that i could do the prep work and make it smooth and uniform, but im wondering how well it will hold up. Also, i wonder if the paint to follow (silver) will look different as its not metal.

A professional will paint it.

Any input?

Im a newb at body work, but im looking to learn.

thanks org!

I would weld them, after a while the glass will shake loose and pop out.

junk yard is your best bet, pick up any 3rd gen trunk....

The 03-05 lids have a dip that goes across the middle as well, it isn't just the mounting holes for the tail light strip.

Take the bar off if you don't know what I mean

Dont try welding that if you havent welded before. Just take your lid to a professional and ask them to do it for you.

I got my trunk lid from the "local" pick and pull for $30.

since you dont have a welder or welding skills, find a sunfire sedan and grab the filler plate off of the trunk, remove the letters and color match it to the car or paint it gloss black. find a set of 95-02 cav/(fire sedan) outter tails to match. has a nice oem feel to it.

What dip? Mine was flat, had some holes. Only dips on it are the taillight buckets.

Its hanging in the garage if I ever wanted a refresher.

And Kris, please, please don't just use fiberglass. It'll eventually crack out as said. Welder is your friend.

unfortunately it seems that my memory is terrible. I just took mine off cause I was switching taillights and said "Oh @!#$" as soon as I saw my trunk. hahaha

I tell you what, if you can get your tail to my house on Saturday morning, we can do the skirts, and for a couple extra bucks, I should have a welder at that time.

No problem. Yeah, 7 hours definitely isn't worth it. Sorry it didn't work out for you. Good luck finding what you need.

Actually a guy from Chicago is coming to pick it up tonight so it all worked out in the end.

And by the way... I'm a girl not a dude !
