Im looking to take the ugly stock light bar off of my 03 cav. And seeing as i cant find a decent trunk lid anywhere near me. i was wondering.
Can the holes for the light bar be effectively filled with fiberglass resin? I am confident that i could do the prep work and make it smooth and uniform, but im wondering how well it will hold up. Also, i wonder if the paint to follow (silver) will look different as its not metal.
A professional will paint it.
Any input?
Im a newb at body work, but im looking to learn.
thanks org!
I would weld them, after a while the glass will shake loose and pop out.
bleh, i was hoping not to hear that.
Ive never welded before. Is it anything like soldering?
junk yard is your best bet, pick up any 3rd gen trunk....
The 03-05 lids have a dip that goes across the middle as well, it isn't just the mounting holes for the tail light strip.
Take the bar off if you don't know what I mean
Dont try welding that if you havent welded before. Just take your lid to a professional and ask them to do it for you.
I got my trunk lid from the "local" pick and pull for $30.

since you dont have a welder or welding skills, find a sunfire sedan and grab the filler plate off of the trunk, remove the letters and color match it to the car or paint it gloss black. find a set of 95-02 cav/(fire sedan) outter tails to match. has a nice oem feel to it.

What dip? Mine was flat, had some holes. Only dips on it are the taillight buckets.
Its hanging in the garage if I ever wanted a refresher.
And Kris, please, please don't just use fiberglass. It'll eventually crack out as said. Welder is your friend.

unfortunately it seems that my memory is terrible. I just took mine off cause I was switching taillights and said "Oh @!#$" as soon as I saw my trunk. hahaha
my bad.
Hmm. Thanks guys! Who wants to weld up my trunk? =P
I tell you what, if you can get your tail to my house on Saturday morning, we can do the skirts, and for a couple extra bucks, I should have a welder at that time.
..hell i have a craftsman fluxcore 125amp mig welder for $150. was 250 new, has a half spool left.
just find yourself a 95-02 trunk lid! no worries about it ever!
WiGM-Tuners member.
So tempting to take you up on that.
But saturday mornings just not gonna work. Id need an entire day off work to make it that far into PA =P
Looks like i might be making a trip to the local pull-a-part
It's only a 2 hour drive to my place from yours.
i googled it..
Hm
PM me your exact address. maybe we can set something up in the near future
So, I take it you decided not to come pick up the silver trunk lid after all Kris?
Dude.

No problem. Yeah, 7 hours definitely isn't worth it. Sorry it didn't work out for you. Good luck finding what you need.
Actually a guy from Chicago is coming to pick it up tonight so it all worked out in the end.
