there's a lot of things that some people think are cool or neat, and others don't. that "sig" is a prime example. they like it, so they use it.

John: whatismyip resolves the RCMP's gateway, but not my real IP @ work. I know this because it gives me the same IP address no matter where on the compound I'm @, but a simple ipconfig gives me the real address (its not a reserved network IP).

GAM It should give you the static IP address of you modem at work.
It helps me keep track of or floating IP address for FTP connections with our customers.
I like it, isn't that all that maters. It reminds the girlfriend of me, me being a hairy beast and all.
