Toon & Hoodie Poll

Ok I need some opinions on this. I'm working on some ideas with a local guy here to have hoodies customed embroidered for J-Body people. Now theres a few things I need other peoples opinions on.

  • The toon itself, should it be completely colored in and embroidered, or just have the simple body panel outlines. Either way the thread colors could be customized to whatever color you wish.
  • Should the toon be a kitted version of the car? I will most likely start out with a cavalier with the drift kit if thats the case since theres more cavaliers and the majority have the drift kit. There could be the possibility of having a sunfire added in.
  • Next issue, cavalier alone on the hoodie, sunfire alone on the hoodie or have both models angled in facing each other to represent both on the platform at once.

I need to get peoples opinions on these so I can figure out what my start up costs are gonna be for an embroidery pattern. Any input is appreciated. If things go well I may talk to him about expanding and maybe doing a cobalt one. As of right now I'm gonna be starting on a toon for his car (a focus) for him to market.

oh an if any questions why this is in IM, its because this where the toon gurus are an those are the people I really need opinions from as to whether it'd be a better idea for it be fully colored or just outlined.

i would say either just the cav or the cav and fire together. but i would vote for non kitted simply because i know i wouldnt want a cav with a drift kit ~blah~ (sorry all you drift kit guys) on my hoodie. but everyone at one point had a stock bodied j. and the stock lines of the cars is what made us get one in the first place. i would also say that the outline would keep cost down alot, but if they can do color relativly cheap than thats a great idea.

i like the idea of having a full color that would be sweet! but im sure alot more expensive of a startup and cost of hoody......

I could do a stock cav, most likely Z24 just because of the better bumpers and just make the bumper a bit bigger so it'd sit lower. That way it would appear kitted but keep the stock look.

i wouldnt like stock cav... alot of peopl dont like cavs because of course its a cavalier and they underestiamte th engine or they dont even know which engine it is.. i would def. want one fixed up

I'll draw up a few different versions this coming week and put it in general or something when I'm done to get everyones votes.

Brandon, if you wanna hit me up with a few hi res pix that'd be great. Most likely with doors down. I can go ahead an do an outline with the doors up too since some ppl like lambos, others don't.

Andy if you have any hi res pix too that'd be great.

I'd say kitted 00-02 cav with type j

Re: Toon & Hoodie Poll

yah id definately say that the type j would be cool........

i would buy one of just the cavalier, not too sure about one with the sunfire on it....sounds cool too though

id also say that full color would be neat because you would be able to personalize your hoodie with your own cars color and scheme.

also just an idea, i know that alot of people have been worried about chris and kasey.....it would be kinda neat if we could get at least one sweatshirt made with his car on it and him and kaseys name and sent to the hospital for them along with the flowers......just a thought.

^^ the thing about embroidery is that there is a setup fee for every different car/cars you want on the product. just one sweatshirt wouldnt be feasable... this is why she is trying to get opinions, so she doesnt get stuck with a sweatshirt nobody wants and is out the setup fee

i would get 2 fully kitted cars one sunfire and one cavalier and get two people u and some one elas and u do one and the other dose the other. so it can cover the 3rd gen bodys.95-05

yep, no one seems to realize that lol for every different design it could cost anywhere from $35 - $250 just to have it digitized. So if I have have 3 different designs done (ex. a 03 sunfire for one hoodie, a cavalier for another hoodie, and say chris' car for another) and they're ones that are completely colored in right there that would cost me $800 out of pocket, just to get it started for everyone. Just an outline can start around $25 an go to around $100.

Miah, ill be getting at you later about your design. I talked to him earlier I just need to email him the pic so he can see it to have an estimate.

sounds like an awesome idea.

why not just use silk screen though? i know embroid is a whole other level of quality, but is the cost going to be too expensive for you to make any money or even recoupe ur investment.

maybe give cafepress a shot.

I like the idea of the kitted cav. Especially if it's a drift front.

i honestly wasnt very impressed with the cafepress's quality.... and the fact that you can only print them on light colored shirts really turned me off

and like you said embroidery IS a whole other level of quality...

can't wait heather! thanks

thats what i was thinking would look best. i would recomend doing only outline too. i think it will look amazing.

I have 2 t-shirts and a hoodie from cafepress, and overall they're not worth the price, it's $30 for a hoodie through there, when for $5-$10 more you can have something embroidered.

Honestly, it's doubtful that I will even make much money on this. Maybe $1 or so a hoodie, which is why I'm trying to keep costs low for the first hoodie GP. If that goes well, the little bit of money is just gonna be invested to have a second design done.

I'm not doing this to make alot of money, I'm just doing it so J owners can finally have some nice apparel and to help a local guy out with furthering his business.

Here's an example so you see what I'm talking about with starting cost

this Team Integra logo cost him $35 as a start up cost

This logo (same hoodie as I have) cost $135 for start up and also has an XS on the hood.

and of course this one he did would even be more than that.

thats to show the quality of the work, and heres a close up of the threads in my hoodie to show it. Click the link since its a huge pic
http://home.comcast.net/~jawdroppin/IMG_1837.JPG

how would everyone feel about an outline of a turbo sport cavalier or something? It would have the body panels an such, not just an outline like the integra. Since alot of people like that car, maybe thats something people could agree on?

Oh the hoodies also come in grey, and in crewnecks just every pic I have is a black hoodie.

ok i found one, heres an example of his work on a grey one. You can have the thread be whatever color you want, that way everyone don't even have to have the same. If a girl wants a pink outline, thats fine, if someone wants an orange, blue, etc thats fine its all up to the person who wants it... but there can only be one design.

those are amazing quality. i like the idea of the turbo sport because your not sportin someone elses car on your shirt its a design that gm came up with that no one owns and keeps the lines of the cavalier nicely.

high res pics might be a problem... but finding the rk sport one may not be so hard... hell they look close enough lol

What the hell does your bodykit have to with the engine? If you want your car on a shirt, do it on your own time.

Yes, good call on the Turbosport.....Steve worded it nicely. I say go with a GM or company built car (Gravana/RK/etc.) to avoid conflict.

BTW I could not find good pics of the gunmetal 2k-2k2 Turbosport to save my life.

Or my personal favorite-
