Gas Smell

Hey guys, my fuel efficiency has gone down the tubes in recent months. On a full tank, I usually get 280km, maybe 300 at max. KMS - not miles. When I turn off the car I usually get a gas smell for a second, but I haven't seen any leak spots on the ground after parking it. I was wondering what are the areas that are likely to cause this problem so I can check them. How can I tell if the fuel injectors are working correctly? I remember reading that I should get a resistance reading from them, but its hard to get a multimeter on them because of the angle. Any ideas? Thanks

you may be leaking fuel from the fuel rail or injectors or somewhere like that, since u dont have puddles or drops. its gotta be coming off somewhere near the engine. thats dangerous.

To check them - do I just look around it while the engine is running and look for fuel?

My 97 cav just did that.. the fuel sender lines were just barely seeping fuel thru the rust on the top AND the top of the tank was rusted.

I got a cheap tank online, coated it in spray rubber, redid fuel sender lines with rubber fuel line.. so far so good one year later.

Well about a year ago I had my fuel pump changed because it was faulty, and the gas tank was changed at the same time. I don't remember when the problem started so I don't know if it could be attributed to the new fuel pump if its the problem.

I figured maybe this might change something also. I recently installed an external switch for my cooling fan under my car. I did this because I noticed that the cooling fan would never turn on. I figured there was just some dead wire somewhere or something - but now I'm thinking maybe theres a reason why it didnt go on. I'm not to sure about the circutry of the j-body, but maybe the cooling fan isnt going on because the car itself never enters a closed loop or something of the sort? I don't know...

Anyone have any ideas? Is there a possible link between that stuff, like mentioned above?
