hi i have a 200 cavalier and just recently when turning the steering wheel either way the i feel roughness when like something needs lubrication has anyone else had this before the car has 194ks on it
any information would be greatly appreciated
You'd have to check the ball joints and tie rods first. Give the tie rods a shot of grease as I believe the ball joints are sealed unless they've already been replaced once.
I just replaced my struts and discovered a large amount of rust on the upper plates which could cause grinding and roughness in the steering.
A simple check to rule out the rack and pinion would be to put the front end in the air (jack stands under the side rails) so the front suspension is left to droop and turn the steering wheel. If you still feel roughness I'd say it's the rack. If the steering wheel can be moved around or seems loose then it's a bearing in the column. If not then possibly what I said above.
thxs ill try what you said and post a response
could also be the intermediate shaft. ive read that there are lube problems with them.
well i greased the tie rods and i noticed the thumppying feeling / noiseis coming from the drivers side possibly the ball joint ? has anyone else noticed this problem before ?
