Hi guys,
got problem with my Sunfire today.
First of all I noticed that fuel level is not adequate to its actual amount in the fuel tank. Yesterday car stalled like with no fuel but level in the tank show 1/4 already.
Today I added 15 liters to it.
When starting up I heard a priming noise fuel pump makes when key on position 2. But car stalled again. After couple of starting/stalling car wont start anymore and fuel pump seems not to be working.
Fuse and relay are fine, I checked.
Could you advise how can I check the pump out? And if its dead, could it be fixed or it should be changed to a new one?
Please help! and thanks in advance!
It's fairly easy to change to a new one. Checking the old one is as simple as turning the car to the on position and listening for the prime. No prime = $hitty pump. I have a 95 2.2 and understand completely. Changing it out consists of dropping the tank. Disconnect the fuel lines and taking out the pressure "O' ring holding the pump in the tank. It's like a giant piston ring with two small circles at each tip. then the pump comes straight out... reverse install... check the on position with the key and listen for the prime BEFORE buttoning up the system or you'll end up pulling it all back down again... TRUST ME!
Thanks for the answer.
In the place I live (faaaaaaaar away from USA) it is hard to get parts to my Sunfire.
New pump will cost $500 if not even more
Could this pump be taken used from other GM car or Sunfires/Cavaliers have a special one?
Or could it be something similar to OE pump but from some different manufacturer (made in China for example), not AC Delco?
Checked Ebay for it and found a lot of pumps from 50$ to 200$ but I don't know what I will get if I buy one for 50$ over the Internet
There's a tutorial somewhere on this forum that shows you how to mate the Chevrolet Blazer fuel pump to the Cavalier. It involves a grinder.

We all drive in a yellow Cavalier...
Well for the price you pay for fuel pumps where you live you have 10 chances of not getting a $50 dud. Joking look on eBay for $150 you can get what you are looking for.
