i bought my 02 cavy 2.2 turbocharged already, from a guy on CL. fixed a bunch of stuff on it from a parts car i bought, so now im on to the o2 sensor. the guy i bought it from said it needed to be replaced....not a problem.....so after driving the car for a month now, im starting to notice that the car will bog every once and a while. so i did a full tune up got colder plugs for it, and bought a o2. nothing helped the bogging. also the heated o2 in in the exhaust manifold. now from what ive seen on my wifes '99 cav 2200 and my buddies '97 z24, the manifold should have the single wire o2 sensor with the purple wire. and from what i can tell there is no after-cat o2 on my car (the exhuast or cat is not stock). the car runs perfectly fine under boost. is the upstream o2 nessesary.. any help would be appreciated. this is my first crack at an obd-II car

Do you have all the specifics on the components/fuel system? Has it been tuned? Could be a number of things...

Hook HPT up and read the voltage on the o2 sensor. It should show you if its reading or not. You should see it jumping around if it is working.
i dont have the hp software, but i scanned it and it said high voltage on the after cat o2 (bank 2) and before cat malfunction (bank 1). ive confirmed that the aftercat o2 is moved up to the manifold and that the o2 thats suppose to be in the manifold is not even hooked up......now my question is why am i running high voltage to the heated o2. and is the upstream o2 that critical. im begining to think that the upstream does in fact have a lot to do with drivability and the downstream is there for emissions purposes. i can deal with a check engine light....i have the car registered in a non-emissions county......everyone thanks for the help so far

this is why you NEVER buy a prebuilt car.
especially if you dont know what you're looking at. YES, the front o2 (in the exhaust manifold) is critical (especially in a boosted application.) its very possible you're supposed to have a 4 wire front o2 sensor, its quite a common swap actually. please, before going ANY FURTHER, do some research in the boost, tuning and performance forums. research means research. research is not making new threads. have a question? you're not the first to have it, or ask it. there's a search button for a reason, please use it before you pop your engine.

im by far not a noob under the hood.....i was a huge into neons and hondas a few years back until the bike itch over came it all. i bought this car as a winter beater, i could careless whether it makes 200hp, come snow melt, the cars getting garaged until the snow comes again. i have used the search button and nothing really pops up on this subject

so what color is the harness wires on the 2-wire upstream

Is it a 2.2 Ecotec? Also JBody's do not have Bank 2, just Bank 1 sensor 1 or sensor 2. Being a 2002 it should have at least a 2 wire O2 sensr, if not a 4 wire stock. It will not look like the 99, or 97 you referrred to.
