Hello everyone, new to this so your help would be appreciated i have a 97 cav z24 with and i have a problem with it, it is that the transmission does not react to any input. Reverse, Drive, 1,2,3. i was driving on the interstate and i noticed the rpm's jumping, and then it settled down, then i noticed i had to hold it at 4,500 RPM to keep the speed that normally only takes 3,200. shortly after i no longer had power to the wheels, but the engine was running. In a pinch of time, and money any help is greatly appreciated.
Just an update, i hooked up a code reader and got a P1810, and a P1887 code. I know what the codes are, but don't know what i have to do to fix it. I cleared the codes and added a quart of trans fluid. The car now goes into drive and reverse, but it takes a while for it to @!#$ into gear. 5-10 seconds. I don't dare driving it because i don't feel like paying for a tow again. so any help is appreciated. Thanks for your time.
I can tell you that that's what mine did the day the transmission went. I don't remember what codes
it spit out but it did what yours is doing. I would possibly start thinking about if you will get it rebuilt
or a salvage yard one. You don't want to know what a new one costs. I picked up mine at a yard
for $600 with I think 30-40K miles. It ususlly costs more than that for a rebuild and a rebuild carries a
year warranty. The salvage one only had 90 days but being as it was so low in mileage I trusted it more.
Hopefully those codes are from an ouside source affecting the trans function, if it's inside the transmission it's toast.
