anyone noticed this? (spark plug diff 2200)

Hey;

I was wondering if anyone here knows what the significant difference is between spark plugs spec'd for 1997 2200's and 1998 2200's is.

I was doing some maintenance on my Sunfire and installed the plugs spec'd for a 1997 car.
The car runs fine ATM, but if I need to I can get the "correct" plugs in my car.

The main thing holding me off is the $12/each(++) price tag associated with the correct plugs(!)

If the plugs spec'd were using the old delco number style that you could actually read (eg: R44S) then I wouldn't be here asking this question, but GM in their infinite wisdom when away from an orddered numbering system to an apparently non-sensical system in the mid 1990's

i think its a difference in the electrodes, the 98+uses a platinum or iridium finewire, whereas the 97- uses a plain platinum or copper plug.

this is definatly a platinum plug...

I looked into applications at an autoparts place today and the autolite platinum plug was a different number, and differnt gap between the two years...??
I think it was a .050" gap for the 98-02 plug, and a .060" gap for the 95-97 plug.

The real problem is I can find no substantial information as to what the actual differences are supposed to be between similar applications... I hope we're not talking several heat ranges - I don't need to screw anything(!)

thanks for trying to help!!

There was a rather significant head change between the 97-98 2200's, if recall correctly... could be reason enough for such different specs for the plugs...?

I'm a 6ft. tall, 250+ lb., man, and I proudly drive the Sunfire. My wife drives the half-ton 4x4...

97 is a 2.2L. 98 is a 2200.
