Hey guys,
I've been searching for the past hour and so, and i've come to the conclusion my power steering pump is toast. I've found links for a tutorial on replacing it, and dont mind spending the money, but i wanted to check and see if yall thought it was the correct diagnoses.
On our 00 z24, my girl got in the car the other day only to hear a whining noise. Previsouly, the car had had no signs of a problem. When i got home i got in the car, drove it around the block. everything seemed fine until i went to make a uturn (not a sharp one) and suddenly i heard a whine and then lost all power steering. when i got back, i popped the hood and the power steering pump had puked up through the cap. The fluid looked fine, but like there was way too much in there. Im going to try replacing the cap since its cheap, but i dont think thats going to cure my problem. I afraid since it came back up through the cap, that there might be blockage in the lines. My only problem is im not quite sure how to test that, and dont want to swap the new one only to have the same problem. Any one have any ideas on how to clear them? Like i said, the swap looks like cake, i know it'll be tight and i've done it on 2 other cars before. I have the worst luck with power steering....
