This summer, I will finally have a chance to do some work on my cavalier. I have a 99, with the 2200 and the 3speed auto. What I plan to do is pull the motor and tranny, drain all the fluids, replace all filters, gaskets, and fluids. With 180k miles is this a safe project to get into? yesterday I had to add transmission fluid as i'd lost reverse, which is really making me wonder if I should drop the pan or not.
Any tips, advice, or fluid/gasket recommendations would be apreciated.

well, i am losing transmixer fluid somewhere, and i know already from the massive oil loss on the side that i need a new head and headgasket. I'm just looking out for preventative maintence. i've put 45k on the car since I bought it, stupidly without doing anything. and god knows how long its been since any of it was actually changed.
and to see people B*tching their only getting 25-29mpg, i'd like to break the 20mpg barrier, and extend the life of my car.
