So i am driving to school and everything is going fine. I get there go to class for three hours and come out to leave...try to start my car and it starts then immediately stalls out. Try it again and the same thing happened. My check engine light comes on and give me a p1404 code. I ready the sticky and it says the egr valve is stuck in the closed position. My scanner at my house tells me it is a "Manufacturer Controlled Auxillary Emission Controls." I am guessing this means egr valve too? I was wondering if anybody else has had this happen to their car since the new egr valve is $190 and non-returnable. My cavalier is a 97 2.2 5-speed. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Nobody else has had this problem????
go to your local auto parts store, and buy:
1. 2 cans throttle body cleaner
2. 1 wire bruh
3. 1 new egr valve gasket
disconnect your battery, pull the egr valve off, spray it down with throttle body cleaner, wire brush the gasket off of it and the mating surface, and any carbon you can reach with it, reinstall it and clean your throttle body while you're there. reconnect your battery, start the car and get it up to temperature, see if the light comes back.
