I have a 97 z24 automatic with the car in park if you rev engine above 2800 rpm the speedometer will climb to above 35 mph... Any suggestions?
don't rev the engine in park.

All stock...........lol.
Wish it was as easy as that im pretty sure something in the tourqe converter is broke there is a banging in the tranny now...
OK... im going to try and guess on something based off of general automotive knowledge but may not be J-body specific...
Is the vehicle speed sensor mechanically driven or hall effect? Either way there might be something screwed up in the tranny that gives the VSS its reading.... it could be loose or partially broken causing the sound your hearing and when you rev the car it might move enough (from vibrations or whatever) to give the VSS a false reading....
Thats my best guess but hopefully someone that knows the inside of this specific transmission better can help.
Thats what i thought might be wrong just gonna have to break down and pull the tranny i guess and check it out

I would guess it to be a variable reluctor.
