91 2.2 , lost spark on 1 & 4, replaced ignition mod, 2 coils, wires and plugs, drove 1 day and 1 & 4 went dead again ! pulled the whole thing and had coils and mod tested ....tested OK WTF? any ideas?
Bad wire or connection somewhere maybee?
Hi,
Cylinder 1 and cylinder 4 share the same ignition coil. This is a very obvious place to look first. My money is on the coil (which is known to fail) or a bad connection to the coil.
IF one coil is bad, replace them both, they are most likely the same age, put into service on the same day and have produced the same number of sparks.
Good Luck
Dave
Dave...... why do you start every post with the word Hi LOL
And I was thinking the exact same thing but he "said" he replaced everything including the coils so IDK....
DO a spark test and verify you dont have spark..... baybee something weird could be happening like those 2 cylinders fouling but still have spark.... but I doubt it.... actually do a live spark test and make sure..... also... you could switch around the wires and see if #s 2 and 3 drop instead.... but thats if you trust the ECU to know better...
Hi again, (it is polite in society to greet someone when beginning a conversation, to just blurt out your comment seems somehow rude)
Yes, I know that he replaced them. I assumed they are used units for to replace all of that stuff he lists with new is a fairly significant quantity of $$$$'s! They all most likely came off of the same car. The only common thread with 1 and 4 is the ignition system or its wiring. My urge to replace them is with new components. Used electrical parts are always suspect in my book and this instance may prove this theory to be true.
I made an assumption here, not always a good thing to do.
Even IF they are new units, the coil or its wiring is suspect.
