Recently my car started leaking oil and using up more than it normally has. Upon looking for a potential cause of this, I found that when my oil filler cap is open, there is air pressure and air blows out at a pace fast enough to hear it over the sound of the engine. Is this normal for the 2.4L LD9? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.
Ummm.... it will do that a little.... the timing chain is right under there.....and its moving upward on that side..... if you pour something like oil additive in the engine when its running... the cam chain will grab it and through a lot of it back at you...
There's not a crap load of air flying out though....
Check your PCV
Already checked the PCV and it seems to be working fine. Its not when i pour something in, it just seems like an excessive amount of pressure, more than any other motor I've seen. Any other ideas?
Does it effect the idle any if you take the cap on or off when its running?
If your PVC is working ok (come to think of it I dont even remember where it is on a 2.4 and I have one LOL) it's probably fine...
The only real other thing that will cause excessive crankcase pressure is blow by... you could always do a compression test and keep an eye on your oil
It doesn't affect the idle when i take the cap off with the engine running. I ran a compression test last week when this was first noticed and each cylinder came out to 200 psi. The pressure control system was also checked and seems to be doing its job. Is there anything else that could cause this? Thanks for your help.
