Need some help here guys.02 Z24 WONT start,I've replaced the coils, coil housing, plugs and wires, icm, and fpr,cam sensor, and the crank sensor is a few months old.The engine turns over but no go,so i unscrewed my main fuel line to the fuel rail, stuck the end in a cup,sat in the car and turned the key to ON and the pump primed and gas came out,so i go to crank the motor and no gas is coming from the fuel line,is that normal???I'm really stumped,i just ordered a spark tester with noid light kit,to test other things, but the fuel pump has me wondering.Somebody help plz thanks.
my take is you mesed smth up when you did the cam and crank sensors, mind you I never did this job on this particular engine, but there is a certain clearence the sensors should have, usualy they come with a spacing pad, you may not have pushed the crank sensor all the way in, you probl don't have spark either, the pump comes on with the key breifly, than again when the computer detects the engine is turning, how,? crank positioning sensor, so you fill in the blanks, sensor bad, wireing from it to comp bad, comp, bad, wireing from it to relay, doubt it because it controls the pump on initial power up just fine, so the rest of the circuit is good, question is where did you mesed up, check your conetions, maybe you did not get one in all the way, if you pull the sensors to inspect them, make sure you buy another pad, heck the new sensor may be bad out the box, again this is just theory, as I have not worked much on these, bought mine new, haven't had to do much.
I've checked all visible wiring, cant find a problem, did a compression test earlier and hit 220psi on all 4 cylinders,i pulled the crank sensor too,and it tested at 758 ohms, which i take as being good,so it isn't that. While i was doing the compression test,i put the fuel pump relay back in and cranked the motor and no fuel getting to the cylinders, new fpr so not sure, how do i test fuel pressure on the 2.4???,is there a fuel rail out there with a fuel gauge on it??chime in ppl, thanks.
First your motor does not have spark plug wires. So how are you going to check spark?
Second can you hear the fuel pump? If you turn the key on do you hear it? After you try and start it do you hear it?

So the ignition switch might be the cause huh?? not entirely sure i have spark, waiting for my tester to come in the mail, all i know for sure is,my pump primes, but I'm not getting fuel into the cylinders. Still need somebody to give me an answer about the fuel pump, should it be pumping while cranking the motor?????????cause mine doesn't.And whats the deal with alot of cavaliers not starting all of a sudden?? freakin a, gm must of sent a memo out to break down or something ha.
did you read what I just posted, are you sure you installed cmp, ckp corectly, especialy sience you remove one to test it, and yes the pump should start up once the comp detects engine moving
Yes i did read, and i made sure my crank sensor was all the way in,heck i even cleaned and scraped the hole it goes into,as far as a "pad" i have no idea what your talking about, the only thing that comes with the sensors is the oring to seal the hole, and according to Haynes i don't see anything mentioned in there about a "pad".I know their has to be an air gap between the sensor and cam or crank, but no way to tell unless i pull the motor half apart to do it.And according to Haynes that wasn't necessary to do.
Ok update, got my spark tester w/ noid light kit today.Tested both spark and my injector signal, both lit up while cranking,so i put everything back together and tried to start the car,and blamm, it started, not sure what changed, but I'm leaning towards the ck sensor or wiring plug to the fuel pump,i played with both a few days ago,but hadn't tried starting it. No cel so i guess I'm good for the moment,so hopefully it's fixed, cause it's running great at the moment.
