A Few problems.

So I have been having a problem with a CEL. It is always the same one. i can't remember the code off hand but last time I had it checked i had the fuel cap not on all the way. when I put the fuel cap on right the CEL went away. then the CEL came on again a few months later. same code. this time I checked the fuel cap and it was on fine.

Should I get a new fuel Cap. The car is running beautifully.

I also noticed coming into work this morning that my oil temp had gone up a few few notches. It settled back down when I came to a stop and stayed there for the rest of the ride to work. I am just worried because when I had my first car (Subaru Legacy Outback) that had happened to me right before the engine quit working. I later found out I had no coolant. (I was a dumb kid back then)

the car has 79K on it and I thought the coolant system did not need to be checked until 150K?

should I check it anyway or do you guys think it might be something different.

thanks for your imput.

The rest of my cars specs are in my proile but

02 Chevy cav
79K
5 speed manual
2.2 OHV
No mods except for custom stereo.

I had a similar Problem to yours as well on my 95 sunfire. First time the fuel cap was not on right, second time it was, not sure the code you have but mine turnwd out to be a bad EGR valve and that was at 50,000km. As far as cooling system Id check it it out too, I would never leave somthing till 150.000km before inspecting it. Although I leak coolant outta the block so I have to check mine and top it up every so often.

thanks for the reply. I checked the coolant level and it's fine. The level was fine. My coolant however was kinda a pinkish redish color. I don't know if that is normal or not for the factory Coolant.

As for the error code it is the same one that says it could be a loose fuel cap. Is that the same one that also lights up for the EGR?

Do a flush anyway, dex cool is not friendly in cars after so many years.

Sounds like you have a small EVAP leak. Check the vacuum lines around the fuel tank and the fill neck itself for any loose, missing, or torn lines.

As far as coolant goes. DexCool is nasty and yes its suppose to be red/pink/orange. I would just swap it out for regular green antifreeze.

I never run Dex-Cool. PH levels get all screwy if you don't keep up on it and it can act as an acid and eat aluminum.
