A few months ago after backing out of a parking spot when I turned the wheel I heard a loud sound...
It was almost a crack and a snapping sound. It does it a lot now when I turn into a parking spot or out of one. I am thinking it has something to do with me almost turning to full lock.
I have also noticed a squeaky sound when i turn the wheel too, almost sounds like it is coming out of the steering column.
But my main worries is the snapping sound, just doesn't sound safe...
The car is lowered on Eibach Sportlines. Would this cause ball joints to wear prematurely? The car just rolled over 61,000 miles.
So here is my options I am thinking:
Ball Joints
Wheel Bearings
Strut Mounts
Any help is appreciated.
Quote Fail
Tire doesn't move, i've tried that a while ago.
I'm just very concerned it may be a ball joint?
Wouldn't a ball joint clunk more when hitting a bump?
I just checked the struts too...
I can compress them quite a bit just pushing up on the tire while it is off the ground.
is that right?
i doubt if its a ball joint at 60k. strange question but did you check the CVs?
ball joints rarely click with bumps, they usually clunk when you take pressure off them while turning a specific direction. but if its a ball joint and its that loose, id almost be certain you could wiggle the wheel up and down.
Check your CVs, tie rod ends and steering linkages, jack the car up, turn the wheels far right and left and spin the wheels to check your cv's, the rest you should be able to wiggle around and see.

Wether it was a quote fail isnt the point.
A ball joint will cause up/down play.
Your noise could be strut mounts, did it start after you lowered it

I will check the linkage tonight.
I bought the car from T2, it was lowered for I think about 30k before i purchased it.
I'm now debating on whether i should put more money into the car or sell..
why? for something so simple as a strut mount?
you should sell your car, buy an srt-4

I thought it was more serious and wanted to get rid of the car, because ever since i bought it, it seems like i dump money into it.
Found out the front struts are blown and the spring is rotating (reseating)
So, looks like I am going to save up for Dspecs and OEM Solid Mounts.
dump money into it??? hahahahah im on my 3rd motor
