a/c compressor trouble, bypass pulley?

Hey everyone, my girlfriend has a 98 cavalier ls, with 2.4 engine. The car has idled very strange since we bought it. It would idle normal, then bog down, then normal, etc. we had the fuel system checked, spark is fine, timing is fine. She just took it to a local shop, and they said her a/c compressor is going out, making the car idle that way.

What is my easiest cheapest option? She doesnt care about the air conditioning, she's never really used it. Do they make a bypass pulley to put in place of that? Or is it easier to just buy a new a/c compressor and put it in? The shop person said that they make an a/c compressor bypass pulley, but I have yet to look into that.

Thanks JBO!

Three options here

Install new comrpessor - expensive option

Get an A/C delete pulley, this pulley simply goes where the compressor did, and acts as if it was there

Get the bett for your car with the same engine but get the NON-A/C belt - easy option

I've heard that the shorter belt 345k5 I think it is, is to tight. Can you still use the tensioner to get the belt on or do you have to loosen the alternator to get it on? And how do you route it?
