2004 Cavalier
Symptoms:
DRL light flashes when in gear. Passenger side headlight flashes. Driver's side does not light up.
Sometimes, but not always, the driver's side headlight will not come on when I turn the lights on. Sometimes gently tapping the light causes it to come on.
Sometimes, but not always, the passenger side small signal bulb will appear to be out, other times its working just fine.
Highbeams always work.
Possible causes:
NOT the DRL Relay, the problem persists even when I replaced it with a new one.
NOT the bulb. Replaced that as well.
Remote car started was "professionally" installed early in the season last winter. For most of the winter there were no electrical issues. This happened shortly before I pulled it off the road for summer storage and is happening now that it is back on the road. Could it be something in the remote start?
The car had a minor accident in which the headlights were replaced.
My thoughts:
There is bad connection. Probably a bad ground somewhere.
Where do I start looking? What do you all think is the cause? Does anyone happen to know what the wiring for the headlight is like (ie. what color is what)?
Going to try to figure this out by sunset. Any help is appreciated!
Problem solved. I disassembled everything, turned the lights on, and started moving wires on the harness going into the main light. Sure enough the green wire was loose causing the light to come off and and on. I zip tied it into a position where the light was on and so far I have not had any issues. DRL's and everything work just fine. This should hopeully alleviate the problem until I can get a new harness. I also threw some Silverstars in while I was at it.
