Yes, that is normal how it suppoused to work, think about what the A/C system does, removes heat/moisture from the air.
The reason it stays on in defrost is because it is removing mositure from the air, so force drier on the windshield to heat it up and get the snow/frost off of it. If you didnt have it, you would have to wait until the vehicle was warm before anything would start to melt.
When you have it on defrost your A/C ompressor is working, anytime you see that green light the A/C compressor is working,
Cars nowadays with A/C on/off it doesnt matter much anymore for fuel efficency.
The whole removoing a fuse, the answer should be obvious by now

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if it seems like a noob question but this is my first car and other cars i have been in never had the lights come on for air conditioning while on defrost. Another question, while it is on in defrost, does it cool the air? Sorry, might be a stupid question but I thought that's all that air conditioners did was cool air. Seems to me like the air conditioning would contradict the defrosting process. Thanks again.
When the heat is on, the a/c just provides removal of moisture, your car will still heat, but it will be cold first till the engine warms up.
Your air condition is needed to be checked....contact the authorised dealor he will help you solve the problem....this is very minor problem and can be solved easily....
