I have a 2000 sunfire 2.2l auto 100,000 km. The other day my brother was driving the car down the freeway, and noticed the cel light blinking and the t/c light on. he got it to where i was, and parked it. I drove it, and found that the cel was on steady, and the t/c light was on, and then once in a while the cel was blinking. the code thrown for the engine was 1&4 misfire, So far the sparkplugs have been changed, the coil pack was brand new a month ago, but we put another brand new one on. new wires installed. Still running like a dog, not wanting to shift and taking about 45-60 secs to get to 50km/hr, and acting like its running on 2 cylinders. t/c light and cel light where reset, and are still on. I'm not really into this "swap parts" till the problem is solved, I'd rather fix the right part. (it was time to do the plugs, and wires anyways, but they were ok when i looked at them, and they are gapped to .050"
Any ideas what else might be wrong. i did notice that there was a crack on the valve cover but, i doubt that has anything to do with this issue. (
OK here is whats up with the car, with exactly what i've done so far:
Diagnosis Code P0300 – Engine Misfire Detected By PCM
GM stated “Confirm customer complaint, inspect for codes find p0300 search code history find #1 &4 misfiring, find wires badly corroded at coil pack, and plugs worn out, needs major emission with wire set replaced.
Recommendations by GM:
New Plugs, Wires, Coil Pack for cyl 1 &4
Replaced
Still Throwing code, running like dog
Engine Compression Check
Cyl 1 – 180 Cyl 2 – 90 Cyl 3 180 Cyl 4 180
Oil poured down Cyl 2
Compression Check Cyl 2
90 - creeped up to 120 after about 20 secs of turning engine over
Cyl 2 &3 Running rich, black fowled plugs after 20 minutes of run time warming up engine for compression check.
Well, I went and performed a leak down test. bad news, rings are leaking, good news... I didn't sink anymore money into the car at the dealership
