GUYS,
I got a noise that I can not figure out and now out of ideas.
Like I said - I replaced the rod bearings (found that that the cylinder closest to the timing chain, those rod bearings were spun)
replaced timing chain guides and tensioner....
2002 Cavalier Z24
150XXX miles
Here are the things I know:
At idle it is not loud
When I hit 2200-2500 RPM it kicks in EVERY TIME
Car runs.
The noise seems to be heard a lil better after it warms up.
What should I be looking at NEXT?
Who else has run into these types of problems with your 2.4 and what was the culprit? Im sure someone has run into this problem before.
Here is what I am thinking: that oil pump drive, water pump, valve lifters...
Not sure though - but I am getting frustrated.
If you h
If you have any ideas let me know
Can you upload the noise to Youtube
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
wrist pins would be my guess assuming that you have the correct clearance for the rod bearing and that the crank wasnt @!#$ from teh spun bearing.
did you inspect every rod bearing?
Rob, I will work on making the vide. I will post a new topic if I do.
MitDr774, the crank was worn and so was the bearing, but there wasnt any grooves....fingernail slid across both with no stops.
Since you mentioned wrist pins - how do I check them?
Would a wrist pin problem be RPM sensitive? *meaning Increase RPMS, noise gets worse)
ALSO, what is the clearance for the rod bearings? What should the crankshaft measure with the bearings off?

ALL rod bearings were replaced....worst one was one beside the timing chain area, what cylinder is that?
did you ever find out what the problem was
i think i have the same problems

8 psi with m62 and IAT under 100
Did you replace the rod bearings in the car? Meaning not pulling the motor out?
FU Tuning
my ram had a lifter noise that only happened at a load around 3k rpms.
