serpentine belt...

Ok, I need to change the serpentine belt in my car, 2004 Cavalier 2.2L ecotec. I have the belt. I dont feel like paying a shop $35 to do it, or buy a $25 book just for this one thing. So how do I go about doing it?

thanks for any/all help.

I am not 100% on youre engine, My buddy had to replace it on it his same motor as youres. Just got to get wrench or serpentine wrench. I am pretty sure you can grab it from the top part on the passanger side engine comparement. If not might have a to remove the right front tire, Remove the plastic wheel well liner, Should have very good access to the belt tensioner.

Good Luck.

Remove RF tire, remove shield covering belt.

I forget what you need to use to release tension, usually 3/8 ratchet end, or a 14 or 15mm socket.

On Ecotecs only the A/C compressor and alternator are driven by the belt, so the belt loops around those and the crankshaft and the tensioner.

Did mine it like 10 minutes, but I had a hoist and air tools to remove the shield, so figure a bit more time for using a jack and such.

Gotcha...my biggest question was on the tensioner. I wasnt sure if it was loosened with a wrench or if it was spring loaded. Im pretty sure I can get it from the top, I have a set of ratcheting wrenches, so clearance shouldnt be an issue.

It's spring loaded I've taken mine off twice probably the easiest one i've changed and smallest unlike the 4.3 from an S-10 that thing is long. lol.
I had to use one of the special serpentine belt removers as it's a very very tight space to loosen the tensioner.
