I am changing the P/S door power window motor,'02 Cavalier.door panel off, plastic sheeting, I drilled out 3 rivets & am hesitant to go further! If anyone has replaced this motor give me some tips. Thanks
Well, the regulators are riveted to the doors and the motors are riveted to the regulators. The glass is bolted to the regulators and can be held in the up position with duct tape. Have you already bought the motor? If so, did you get the motor only or a regulator with a motor? If you haven't and you have a coupe or sedan, I recommend an aftermarket regulator with motor. (The Dorman item is recommended.) You can get these at parts stores or on-line. You can also get used parts from a wrecking yard, but this is too much work to do for something you're not sure will last. If you want to keep the regulator you have and just change the motor, you have to isolate the counterbalancing spring in the regulator or it will unwind violently when you drill the rivets out and pull the motor off. I think if you search the forum a bit, someone has posted a procedure in the past. I've used bolts to hold everything back together so I don't have to drill rivets out again. I also recommend a manual. This job is a lot of work, but can be done successfully. You will, however, likely curse the day you bought a Cavalier with power windows. The OEM motors are short lived. It's worse on the convertibles as the regulators are unique and the glass run channels and plastic clips are unobtainium. Good luck. - Mark

That's BS. I just changed mine, there's no spring...
