2.4L Timing chain cover - Use rtv?
Monday, August 16, 2010 12:49 PM
I'm replacing the timing chain cover on my 2.4L in my on going quest to stop it from leaking. I've read that the gasket is reusable but would you guys still put a thin bead of ultra black on there? I'm thinking I will because I do not want to tear this thing apart again for a 4th time. Thankssssssssssssss

Should not hurt it. The gasket is reusuable, but a thin layer on each side isnt a bad idea.

I've had mine apart many times, never needed RTV, but if it was leaking I'd load that $%&# up. Just kidding, a small bead should suffice.

Make sure it's clean first, most of the time when I replace something and it leaks it's because I didn't properly clean it, may want to check for any damage too while you're there, like cracks on the bottom since it's been a problem for you.

yeah i would go with it aswell! it sure won't hurt thats for sure, I had problems with a leak to but it ended up just being the pully from the belt that goes in front of the cover thats wasn't tight enough!
