im new to the forum and the whole j-body thing. i have a 2002 sunfire gt with the ecotec engine. the only problem im having is that when i turn on the car, in the morning, theres a clacking sound comming from the front right side. it sounds louder when the clutch is in. when the car begins to warm up it doesnt sound as loud. the car drives great and doesnt always makes the noise just when its "cold". any help would be appreciated, thanks.
the noise comes up even when the ac is turned off.
i took a quick video of where i think the noise is coming from
heres the link
again any help would be appreciated
try changing the belt tensioner pulley
well i have a ecotec too swap. and i would here this nasty noise when i start for short then would go a away then it got progressive longer as time went on untill one night it just wouldnt go away. turned out my tensioner cracked n shifted n the noise was the pulley rubbing the side block(very tight as is) and then it snapped n i lost my belt completely at 2am and luckily was able to drive the 50 mins home on battery. not fun near the end headlights, brakes, 4-5 gear(auto) had to down drop to 3rd manual to drive the last 1/2mile since the comp was diyng from lack of juice. but i would since sounds similar remove the belt tensioner and inspect for damager. i had in the beginiing thought ac but then did with n without ac. then u got crank(doubtful) and the alternator sides the tensioner.
well now the noise is gone, and it runs like a champ. what i did to get rid of the noise was i added marvel mystery oil to the engine and the fuel, and i drove around it like that for about 2 weeks, the noise was still there until one day it was gone. Im not sure if the oil cleaned out something but it sure worked for me.
