I only start my sunfire if i jump the starter

Without warning, my 97 sunfire would not start. all i got was a fuel pump noise. i immediately figured it was the neutral safety switch. i went to the auto wreckers and picked up a NSS from a different year sunfire but with the same 4 speed transmission. i installed it and it still wont start, the car will only start if i jump the two starter wires on the starter. could it be anything else other than the NSS?

Is your theftlock light on the dash lit up after you turn the key on?? This could cause the problem... just happened to my friend last week because of corroded battery cables.. could also be a bad ignition switch or faulty wires somewhere along the line

YES! the light is on, i didnt even think about that because i thought if the passlock (theft light) is engaged the car will start for 1 second and shut off, but mine doesnt, it doesnt crank at all. is the ignition switch the entire key cylinder on the steering column?

On my car, it's a 95 2.2, The big purple wire and the big yellow wire at the safety switch can be wired together to bypass it. Also, on my car, the ignition switch melted inside and the starter part wouldn't work.

No, it's behind it, little black box with a plug. It has some fat red wires, and a fat yellow one. It's hold on with 2 screws.
