My POS Cav wagon died again. It's weird as hell what it's doing. It's done this before, but the same old solution (replace crank sensor and harness) didn't solve the problem.
Engine HAS compression. It sometimes has a spark, sometimes it doesn't. Fuel goes and comes same as spark.
I put a multimeter on the crank sensor. It gets a signal, so spark and fuel SHOULD be coming. I've traced ALL the ignition system wiring (had the dash out and everything) and it's in perfect condition. When it dies (3rd time it's done this crap, 2nd time mysteriously fixed itself) it won't die going down the road. It "dies" by not starting up.
Anyone have a clue why my Crapalier won't crank? I'm so fed up with it I'm considering converting it from EFI to stock carb.

Forgot to mention the list of parts I've replaced. Forum's not letting me edit my post though.
So far I've replaced: ECM, Ignition Module, Plugs and wires, Coil Packs, Crank sensor and harness.
Another small note: Last time I replaced the Crank Sensor (done 3x) there was a small chunk of metal (about the size of a pencil lead) stuck to the magnetic tip. Could this have been part of the reluctor ring? And is the reluctor ring replaceable? If I have to replace the crankshaft I'm just going to scrap the 2.2 and drop a non-GM motor in it.

Or just junk the whole car and get something newer...an 18 year old car with a bad motor
I would suggest replace the oil pressure sending unit.If your car does not have a gauge it will have 2 sensors for oil.One is for the warning light not sensing oil and the other is actually what registers the oil pressure..The oil pressure sender should have 2 wires the idiot light (comes on with key on) has a single wire.This grounds the fuel circuit and thus kills the electrical to injectors as well to prevent engine damage.Being you have completed all the other components this is my suggested correction.And make sure to buy some permatex high temp thread sealant(small white tube) 4.00 or so sold at advance,auto zone,napa etc.Put some on the end of the threads so it seals it at the block for leaks.
@95LsCoupe:
I've considered that so many times. I guess I'm just holding on to the hope that the motor can do like my '93 Altima and do 450k before breaking down to the point of needing a rebuild. Should've known a post-85 Chevy wouldn't last.
@Ron Love:
That makes some sense to me. It has had oil issues and the "idiot light" never even came on when it leaked out ALL of its oil. I fixed the leak, but I never thought the sensor could be causing a problem. I'll give it a shot later in the week. (Would do it tomorrow, but my son was just born on the 5th and he's coming home tomorrow.
)
I am kind of skeptical about if it will actually work though. I hear the pump run and when I had my multimeter hooked up to the injector harness I was getting a pulsing signal. Either way, I'll try it and let you know how it goes.

I gave it a try, but it didn't solve the problem. I don't think the fuel system is the problem.
I also tried to see if it was sparking, but again, no spark. I'm really starting to think that the tiny piece of metal I found on the crank sensor was part of the reluctor ring. Anyone know anything about it? Is it replaceable or built in to the crank? I don't have the time to rip into the motor just to find that much out.
Since I've already replaced every electronic part of the ignition system, I'm clueless as to what else could possibly be causing the no start. The reluctor ring seems to be the only possible problem. Is that it, or am I still missing something?

I finally got it working! After searching online through TONS of different forums, I came across a post (not on this one) of a guy describing my problem EXACTLY. He even listed off the same parts that he had replaced. No one ever even replied to help him, but thankfully he solved his problem and posted back.
Turns out it was the
ignition module. Even though
I had already replaced it with one that worked in a different Cav and
tested OK at the 3 major auto parts stores, it was
still junk. I guess it just had an intermittent issue that my Cav decided to make a permanent problem. I replaced it and it tried to start, so I floored it while cranking and the familiar diesel-like sound of my Chevy $#!+box filled the neighborhood.
