hello all. i had the idler pulley grenade today on the way home from work. 185K was a good life, i think, LOL the problem i am having is this...... i took the bolt out that holds the pulley in place. all of the bearing was gone and the pulley was chewed, broken, and melted. the new pulley is the same size as the original, but the opening of the bearing is alot larger than the diameter of the bolt. what keeps the bearing/pulley centered where the bolt goes? is there something that goes inside the bearing itself? also, the bolt had a large flared washer on it. i am worried that when tightening the bolt through the pulley, that washer will come in contact with the plastic edge of the pulley and not snug down on the bearing instead? any ideas, enlightenment? i have to get this thing back together this weekend, and the @!#$ty part is that it's 20 miles from home. in a safe place, but it is still a road trip. looking forward to some help. peace, john
self enlightened, thank you. LOL i had to make a trip to the junkyard this morning, and was able to locate a 2000 cavy that was under a foot of snow. after removing snow off the hood and around the fender, i removed the drive belt and unbolted the idler pulley. as i had suspected, i did indeed lose a critical component when my old pulley went to pieces. on the bolt, there is a plastic thingy that will center the pulley bearing onto the bolt. after the road trip to the stricken cavy, it took about 25 minutes to simply bolt on the new idler pulley and then go through the struggle of getting the freaking serp belt around all the pulleys and into place. the tensioner tool i bought a few years ago came in handy to get said belt installed. the car runs quieter now, and i will be watching it on my next trip or so to be sure all is well with the engine itself. an oil change and coolant change are due anyways, so that will be happening sooner rather than later. peace, john
