Hey guys...
A friend of mine's car just started doing something that has me boggled...
He left a friends house... got a few miles down the road and the car died... no sputter... almost as if the key was just turned off... all dash lights still on, etc... and wouldnt start...
I went to look at it a few hours later and it started right up... drove it home and it drove fine... let it sit there and idle for a little bit and it died as if someone just turned off the key... no misfire... just dead and wouldnt start... would crank but wouldnt fire...
Let it sit for an hour... start it and it will now run for 6-7minutes and then just die... every time... as soon as it dies, you can hit it with starting fluid and it will run so its fuel related... the fuel pump isnt shutting off... you can hear it running when the car dies and it still wont start back up for a few hours... then it will start and run fine for 6-7minutes again.
It seems to have good fuel pressure... replaced the fuel filter that was full of crud but that didnt help... only cels are rear o2 sensor, iat sensor, and evap control (its had these codes for several months... he just hasnt had the money to fix it...)
I swapped the fuel pump relay for giggles... nothing... then I hotwired the pump by jumping the relay posts and the pump never shuts off... but the car still dies... hit it with starting fluid and it will start right up for a few seconds...
Any ideas guys?? Ive ran out of things to check...
Thanks
-Chris
I was thinking the same thing however it doesnt even sputter when this happends... it doesnt do anything odd and drives fine and then bam... dead... if the fuel pump was going, I would think it would atleast sputter or misfire or something...
I still need to check pressure... but any other ideas?

If you know for sure the fuel pump is running the whole time than it sounds like your injectors stop firing. You know it has spark because it will start off quick start, if the fuel pump runs constantly the only thing left is the fuel not getting delivered.
So... is there anything besides the ecu that directly controls the injectors? Any kind of module or anything of that sort?
Thanks
