Bearings or rotor?
Tuesday, July 05, 2011 10:38 AM
my car makes a loud vibrating sound when i go over 60 km/hr. i hear it pretty bad when i turn left, not so much when i turn right. i feel the vibration as if it's coming from the driver's side wheel.

this started a few months ago, but only got loud when i went over 80-100 km. i took a short road trip over the weekend (300km+) and now it's worse.

is this a rotor or bearing issue? i know it's hard to diagnose over a forum, just wondering if it's obvious which issue it is.

THANKS!

could the wheel bearing also cause the car to vibrate, like actually shake? My dads alero has the same issue, between 105kph and 115kph the car has a shake and vibrating noise coming from the passenger side wheel well but the car also shakes. Once you hit 120kph it all goes quiet and runs "smoother". We Initially thought it was a bent rim but could it be the bearing and hub?

yup sounds like wheel bearing,But as I have learned in the past just swap out both,if one is gone the other is not far behind..

well the wheel bearing is a part that you don't want to be bad

but to change it, its really easy
jack the car
take the wheel off
take the caliper off
take the rotor off
take off the nut with a 30mm socket
you need a T-55 i believe
put the car in N
take the 3 t-55 torx's out
pop off the bearing/hub assembly

put the new bearing/hub assembly on
tighten the 3 t-55's
put the washer on then the 30mm nut
torque it too 100 ft/lbs
then put the rotor, caliper, wheel back on
lower it off the jack then your done

again, thanks guys!

i feel like an idiot, but i really have no clue... i think i'll get it done at a garage this time and then look into it more later...it's pretty bad, so i do need it changed asap..

just searched and found this...seems manageable, but this would be a first for me, so i think i'll hold off this time.

its alright as long as its fixed while carea how it gets there. when up got sometime just look at it and youll knowe how if youp have my luck you'll do them more than once. I bought master pro from oreilly and ive done theme two times in 5 months I ended up this time buying the more costly ones. but yea its easy but if you dint feel comfortable doing it let someone do it and your putting food on there table and there fixing your car so you can put food on toot table to lol so it all works out.
