Hi, I have a 1997 Sunfire 2.2 5 speed, with 119,000 miles and i am having a problem I cannot figure out. On really hot days 80+, or after the car has sat a while(6 hours) it cranks but doesnt fire up right away. It will always start but usually cranks for 10-30 seconds then runs very rough for a minute or so, then smooths out and runs fine. Any ideas?
Does pressing the gas pedal help it start? Maybe sticking/dirty IAC valve...very simple to clean/change on that motor...mine did this for a while, not as bad as yours but i had to rev it for a little to keep it from stalling then it would run perfect
Yes, pushing the gas pedal helps it start. I will try cleaning the IAC valve.
I heard cleaning it only makes it better for a little while then it will go bad again, mines been good for 4 months.....even if that is the case, atleast it will help narrow it down. Also be easy on the rubber O-ring gasket, if it breaks, you get vacuum leak lol
Well, i cleaned the IAC valve, it was fairly carboned up, and the car is still doing the same thing. The car runs fine after i get it started.
