Ok I replaced my fuel pump (the hole assembly from carter). I replaced it because my car was hard to start and my fuel gauge didn't work.
Ok now it starts better some times but others it cranks a few times before starting like before.
Also my fuel gauge works but its off I can fill it up it will goto 1/8 before full and some times I can look down while driving and it will be on full. When I turn the key off it goes up about 1/8 inch.
What can I do to fix these problems?
My gauge cluster also doesn't show my mileage could there be a problem with it cause my fuel gauge to act up?
Its a 99 Pontiac Sunfire
My guage is inaccurate as well but I have just learned to live with it. Those float assemblies are very sensitive and I am sure i wacked it on something in the 3 hours it took me to figure out how to get it compressed in the tank and get the snap ring to hold it in place. The fuel gauge has been inaccurate on this car since the day i bought it. I replaced fuel pump, fuel filter and fp relay and it ran awesome for a few weeks but then started idling rough again.
I assume you replaced the fuel filter already? How old is the battery? I had mine tested and the CCA's were only like 120A, WAYYYYYYY below what GM lists as acceptable minumum cranking amps. If you haven't had the battery tested or replaced recently, that would be my next move.
The battery is older could a low battery cca cause it to be hard start. The engine seems to crank fine just some times it fires right up others you have to crank let off and try again.
