After putting the serp belt back on my 1999 Sunfire this past weekend, I'd like 10 minutes alone in a room with the guy who designed it! I wanted to kick someone in the head for only allowing a finger width between the fender/frame and the motor. I spent more time on the serpantine belt than I did replacing the water pump and thermostat combined!

This. At least you can buy the proper belt for under 100 bucks.. I did change the tensioner on a 2001 2200 once so I know your pain. Had to pull the motor mounts and let it hang down so I could get the bolt out. Rather than using the socket just push down on the tensioner with a long pry bar. Made it much faster and easier for me.

I have never had an issue with getting my belts on. Supercharged or not. I actually think it is pretty easy...
A serpentine belt tool makes the job much easier.
