Hi guys,
I just had my water pump replaced on my 97 Cavalier Z24. I took the mechanic all the parts for the job including the tensioner and guide. Half way through he called me saying the tensioner I took him was different. Long story short, my 97 Z24 had a tensioner from a 2.3L GM. I took the one that was on my car back to the auto parts store and exchanged it for the "correct" one.
Is it usual for that to happen? BTW I was only charged $150. for labor.
It is possible that the tensioner has been replaced before.
SO you bought a 2 piece tensioner, but the car had a 1 piece?
If so the 1 piece is better in my opinion.
