The manual says dextron 3.
I heard you don't use automatic transmission fluid in a standard.
What 's the truth?

I always do what the manual says... because otherwise "bye bye warranty!"

with a 5 speed you use automatic tranny fluid any other manual tranny you use somthing else..i think somone told me because of the 5th gear being bronze or somthing like that
Dexron III is the
only fluid recommended by GM for the Getrag transmission.
Are these transmissions different from the late '90s 5 speeds? We had always used the GM Synchromesh fluid in those trannys, and I also run the GM Synchromesh in my turbo all wheel drive eclipse 5 speed. It's available from dealerships, around $8 a bottle.

the getrags are different in the newer cars than the older trans. My 93 5spd used synchromesh, and my new 04' 5spd uses dexron III
