04 cav noise
Wednesday, April 13, 2005 10:19 AM
i have a 04 cav with 6,200 mile on it. sometime after i have driven it for a while when i come to a stop, I can hear a load noise in my trunk, it sounds mechanical. the only thing i can come up with is the fuel pump. Is it suppose to be this loud? is something wrong? If any one knows or has and ideas please help. thanks.

Take your dealer tech for a ride, you car is under warranty, they don't charge you to look at it.

i can only hear it when in stopped. its not any thing like a loose spare tire. this might sound weird but i kinda sounds like engine ping or knock. but from my trunk. thats why i am assuming its my fuel pump. by why would this happen.

Sounds like you have the same problem I have. Took my car to the dealer and they had it for 2 days. Only to find nothing wrong with it and told me it was normal. hard for me to believe cause i had a 95 cavalier and never herd the noise till i bought my 04. I you take it to the dealer and he tells you something diffrent let me know. I might take it to the another dealer by my parents in pa just to see what they say.

It sounds like a low thud sound, right? If it is, I think it is the gas moving around in the tank. The pump is mounted so it won't be moving around but the gas will hit the front of the tank when you stop, making a thud sound. I mostly notice the sound when I stop or park my cavy, I can hear the sound and also feel the whole car moving back and forth a little from the gas sloshing around.

Sounds like it might be a wheel bearing or something to me....

Its wednesday. yesterday i took my car to the dealer to find the problem of the noise. and just like every other problem it stopped the day i brought it down. the dealer took my car for a drive, nothing happened. so it went into the shop for tests. they pressure tested it. every thing was great. they pulled it to take a look. nothing there. so its been about 28 hours and the noise still hasnt came back. the only thing they said was a loud fuel pump is normal, and doesnt cause any harm to the engine, but if the noise starts up i can bring it back down. i felt like a d!*k.

I took mine to the dealer and told him when i roll down my windows it seams to go away. he said oh we tested it and it is ok its normal for the fuel pump to be loud.

one of our automatic 04 Cavi's get a lound knocking sound from time to tome when you start the car up, and a vibrating as well. Almsot sounds as if it is banging underneath the car around the center on the driver side. A few time when it was put in reverse it got worse. To get rid of it you need to turn the car off and restart it then its gone till next time. Anyone have this problem. This what you guys are refering too? Dealler could find nothing wrong. seems worse when weather is damp possibly.
