My car died...randomly

So I pulled up to a stoplight and my car just died. I have a 2003 Automatic with 30k miles. Regular oil changes, all my nuts/bolts are tight, everythings good, except it died.

What happened is this: I pulled up and stopped, then right before I inched up to look and turn, the RPMs died. I shifted into Neutral and tried to start it, but I had to shift it into Park before it would start - it did nothing in Neutral.

Any ideas? I'm thinking the ignition coil could be going.

I doubt it.

Did you get any codes thrown? My S/C GA died after a race, turned out to be bad spark plug wires, this doesnt sound like your problem though.

Sounds like a fuel problem to me, check your fuel pressure. Have you changed your fuel filter yet?

Next check the impedance of your injectors, use a multimeter, they should all be pretty close to each other (unless all bad). My lumina died all the time at stops until I replaced the injectors.

Just for fun pull your plugs and inspect them, I doubt you will find anything execpt for the gap being off, but its worth the 5min to make sure. My plugs were factory gapped between 0.020 and 0.048, needless to say my eco ran a lot better with new plugs gapped correctly.

I'll do the plugs and fuel filter this coming weekend, should be a good "get to know your cavy" event lol

Be really careful changing the fuel filter, there is a good chance of breaking the clip if you do not use the removal tool.

Sounds like the ECU aborted. Hook up a DRB and look for "Single Trip Failures".

You are still under warranty. Take it to the Dealer.

My car did the same thing today, but I got a 5-speed manual with 2002 ecotec motor cavalier ls sport........As soon as I pulled up to the stop sign I pressed on my brakes and my clutch and put it in neutral............My car stopped...then I was waiting for the other car to go.........All of a sudden my engine was shaking and it felt like it was going to die......and then I went to first gear and pressed on the gas a little to make my turn then the she just died........I restarted it and it ran fine for now and didn't die on me after that.........but the wierd thing was I had a quart tank of gas and once I started her back up and drove off, I noticed that the gas was on low, but after a minute or two the pressure went back to where it was suppose to be before it died....I know that I didn't stall the car myself, It just died on me for the very first time and it's got almost 49,000 miles on it and I already changed my fuel filter at 39,000 and change oil every 2,500 miles....... so I keep it well maintain.......next thing is I am going to install my d-specs w/ b-g sport springs and change brakes and rotors and spark plugs, maybe flush the system too..............but any ideas why this happened??? I hope it's nothing major and just a freak accident b/c I just dropped alot of money on a brand new clutch and slave cylinder, cause the slave was leaking about a month or so ago...........Sorry about the long message!!!!!! But I had to say what I had to say...........Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
