I`ve been having a problem lately with my 96 2.4L, it has been running extremely rough at idle and doing so at nearly 2K rpm and not going down, it just today went down to approx. 1100rpm after i took apart the throttlebody and cleaned it. Idle is smoother but it has a nasty intake backfire, especially higher rpms.
What would be causing this? Also, there seems to be a ticking/air sound coming from the driverside/intake manifold side of the car, maybe EGR... could this be the cause? If so, I`ll swap it ASAP.
Thanks!
Oh ,btw, I realize the a/f gauge isn`t so accurate but it is saying at idle it is running rich, at approx. 4K rpm it smooths out to where it should be at idle! I find this very weird. I will try to put some fresher gas in it and fuel injector cleaner since car has been sitting for the last 4 months or so.

Speed costs... How fast ya wanna go??

Actually good fuel made it runs MUCH better, let it run for about 15 minutes then it just stalled, I tried starting it and it refused to barely crank... I unhooked battery, put back on, not it won` budge and as soon as I put key in ignition it is supposed to give me that random dinging noise right? Not its a constant, really fast dinging, as if its a theft deterrent device stopping the car from being started? I have no idea...
Bad ground... and the misfire/backfire is for sure intake leak somewhere, weird because I have a brand new gasket on there... maybe EGR.
