Hey everybody, I have a question? I have a '96 2.2 cav with an auto trans. For some reason, pretty much as long as I can remember, whenever I shift from drive to reverse or vice versus, my motor thrusts hard in the direction that I shift. I thought that I might have a loose or broken motor mount, but they seem to be fine. Is there any other reason why I have so much play when I shift gears? Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to affect the performance or anything else, I just don't want it to cause a problem later on down the road.
Gm auto transmissons are like that. some times they act up when they get old. you will know if have problem if you see trans fluid dripping out the trans. also a good tip take out your trans dip stick is the fluid smell burnt or is it real dark . If so you can change out the fluid it might be fine or might speed up its demise. but above all things dont bring it in to a shop and have them adjust the Throttle cable then it will realy puke
^ like he said, you own a GM with an auto. get used to it. mine is the same way. shifts a good 2 inches. if you want to tighten it up go buy some engine mounts.

The trans fluid is fine. I've had it for five years now it nothing has gone wrong. I was just curious if it shifting so hard would case any problems. Thanks guys.
you've never had your tranny fluid changed it 5 years? damn! I wouldn't go more than 1 without a tranny service (probably stems back to my 700R4 I beat up on in my IROC).
