Anyone here ever use a product like seafoam or some other combustion chamber cleaner to remove carbon?

Just curious what brands, and how they worked. I hear seafoam is the best, but i cant find any....

Seafoam works very well. just follow the instructions. when i used it i just poured it into the TB, slow though or you will stall the car. after you pour it in you shut the car off, thats if i remember correctly. then when you start it back up it will blow smoke out the exhaust like crazy. basically thats how you know it worked.

theres also GM's topend cleaner

I used GM Top engine cleaner in my ranger. Should have seen the funk come out of the tail pipe. And man did she run pisser after that.

Do a search for GM Top Engine Cleaner. There was a thread on it a while back. Thats when i did it last.

I did it on my friend's 2000 Z24 and it didn't smoke much but it idled a little bit better and had a bit more responce.

When pouring it in. Feed it in thru the break booster hose and run half the bottle thru there then pour the rest in down the TB. Shut the car down for 15 minutes then fire off the car.

That 15 minute shutdown lets the stuff work away on the stuck on carbon.

when finished... Idle it for a while till the smoke goes almost completely away then take it on a "beat" run.

Run thru your gears to high RPMS. That'll help break loose any other stuck on carbon as well as cook the cleaner that's left in the engine.

That stuff works wonders btw.

ok a little off topic but still about seafoam. My cavy runs a little rich with the full exhaust and its kind of odd but the odor is puts off smells like seafoam. Is there a point in which using to much of it is bad? I used to run about 1/4 of a bottle every oil change but stopped since the smell has stuck around.

I just used the top engine cleaner today...here in canada the part number matches up with a bottle stamped "cleens".

I have seen seafoam used and it creates a huge white smoke cloud.....the stuff i used ...did not...though the engine feels smoother..... but yeah...maybe i had very little carbon in the engine. (i use it for highway use only)

next time i may use Seafoam instead.
