well in the book it shows removing the strut from the steering knuckle so I am figuring that you will need one because the knuckle is now free to move around on its own, independent of the other side. the strange thing is that the book doesn't mention doing one at all.(Haynes) my Chilton's book has gone walk about but it never gets too far.

I did both my drive axles without an alignment. The axles have play in them so that is not an issue and the steering knuckle is a solid connection so basically I don't think you are changing anything.

It would be a different story if you removed the tie rod or the replaced the steering ball joint knuckle. Then you would be physically altering something, which in this case you are not doing. Everything goes right back where it came from.

If you have slotted your struts then you may need to get your camber back into spec, but I doubt your toe was thrown off.
