HO Cams install and Engine work
Sunday, January 13, 2008 8:10 PM
As some of you might have read in my Cam Towers post here in the Performance forum i am planning the following

I now have

HO Cams, Cam Towers and Lifters. HO Cams have already been modded to work with the power steering and also has the Cam Position Sensor mod

These will be going in my 2000 Z Auto

What im looking for is what valve springs can i run ? HO Ones? Better ones ive heard about running some others but need some adivce here

Im also going to swap the Timing Chain, Tensioner and Chain Guides and Water Pump while in there for good measure

When it comes to gaskets which ones must i replace and which ones should i replace or should i do them all?

Any other worth while mods that arent crazy expensive while im in the motor? I was also thinking of doing an Underdrive Pulley.

Thanks for any and all information

I think HO springs and retainers should work fine since that is what GM was using in the motor.

With the added lift you wont run into clearance issues with the pistons will you??

Anyone else have any input?

I'd run HO springs and retainers. That should do you well.

My car has been and will be re tuned with HP Tuners

Also this car is not daily driven. I drive it to the car shows in town weekly

I am building this car for Bracket Racing also. Pretty much all we have up here in Northern Ontario

Anyone have anything to suggest with the Auto and HO Cams? Can it be tuned to take advantage of the Power Ban with HP Tuners?

Unless the power band starts at like 5800rpm i don't see how this will be a problem???

what head are you running the LD9? if so hasn't there been a few people run HO's and not had piston issues?
the power band isn't an issue. the biggst pain is the Idle with a stock TC and just off idle. next would be the shift points but you can change that with HPT.
other than tha get a clean flowing exhaust on it

Ya i have a 2.25 Exhaust with a Pacesetter Header Magnaflow High Flow and Borla Pro XS Muffler

Also HO Intake mani and tb

well I would polish the exhaust side that in general is where most of the work on a LD9 head is needed.
(are you pulling the head?)
If you're not pulling the head, after you put the cams in turn the engine over by hand and make sure it rotates freely.
but I think you are ok for clearance on a LD9 head.

Yes i was reading in the other HO cams in a 2.4 and there is no clearance issues with the HO cams hitting the pistons.

Can't wait to get started on this darren.

So can everything from 2.3 HO be transfered to 2.4 head? Thats with using 2.3 cam towers.

So just 2 clarify, it is certain and proven that there will not be any piston to valve loving issues if I swap in the HO cams.

GMR has got nothing on this

From what i've read in this thread " http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=2&i=403852&t=403852 " there is no clearance issues with the pistons.

However, you need modified cam towers to run HO cams in a 2.4. This is not an issue here due to the fact that since this stuff was taken from a GM test motor all the revisions are already made, including the Cam Position sensor.
