Iam building a 1994 2.2 I wanted to have the top of the block decked . does anyone know how far I can have it cut without messing up timing. thanks for any help
Take it to any local machine shop and they can do this for you.
Try to go to a shop that is more 4 cylinder oriented than one for V8's.
Either way, this will be your own alternative and you can deck the head without taking out too much material to have any effect on the timing.
If so, just use a thicker gasket or use two.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
yes, they have head gasket spacers for this, but on the OHV, you are not going to run into as many problems as the DOHC guys.
Also, whats your reasoning for doing this? Just trying to straighten it out, or are you trying to boost compression?
you want mess up the timing as the cam is in the block not above the heads, if you are just trying to gian some compression shave teh head, we have shaved well over .100 and not even come close to hitting we had one motor with a .140 shave head on it
Im trying to boost compression . I race this on quarter mile oval track. Trying to do somethings for power that wont be that noticable.
Well, looks like you & Bob have lots to talk about!
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
