Exhaust
Saturday, February 14, 2009 11:20 PM
Got my cat welded in today, so my setup is now a LSJ header, 2.25 magnaflow high flow cat, 2.25 mandrel bent to the 2.25 magnaflow muffler (its the rksport setup). Its a bit raspy in between 3500 and 4000 RPM, if i stomp on it, but if i get on it gradually its not. i am getting a res. I just have to wait for it to get here. I also would like to replace my muffler. What are some peoples favorites?

I'm running a magnaflow, I forget the part #, but it is the stainless steel, offset in/out, sounds decent, but I only have the 2.2

Thrush 28" resonator, and a dynomax super turbo muffler.

this is the ideal anti-rasp.

To the op, I'm just wondering why you decided on the LSJ header (pacesetter?) with a 2.25" exhaust? Or is it the factory LSJ manifold?

I chose the LSJ pacesetter because it was only 100 bucks slightly used, and i plan on supercharging in the near future. I made several sevearl track runs with the l61 pacesetter header, and could only run about 15.7's time after tiem after time. My first pass with the LSJ was a 15.6, and they went down to around 15.4 and have stayed there since... so unless i became a better driver, with out going to the track inbetween headers, i would say that it has helped me.

What is different between the L61 and LSJ header? Does the downpipe/extension end up in the same spot? My exhaust stops right before the subframe where the Tsudo header stops. If it's just a little cutting and welding I'm good but I don't have access to a mandrel bender.

stick with your magnaflow muffler and toss in a 22" or larger magnaflow resonator

The difference is the size of the primaries. The L61 has 1.5 inch primaries, and the LSJ has 1.75 in primaries. Other then this, the are identical in dimensions. The downpipe for the L61 will work with the LSJ.

I don't see what you mean. You're saying it will bolt up to the stock DP. I have nothing stock in my exhaust. It's set up for my Tsudo. The Pacesetter comes with that downpipe/extension. Are you saying that extension is the same on both? I knew the pipe diameter difference which is why I'm going with the LSJ header since I heard it can drop a tenth or two.

Thanks though. I'm looking for a used ceramic coated one but will probably just cheap out and get the painted one and paint it myself.

no they will not bolt to the stock downpipe....they will both bolt up to the pacesetter l61 downpipe..

I don't have a Pacesetter... I understand the collector is the same. I don't have the DP off the L61 Pacesetter. Noone will tell me the diff between the LSJ and L61 extension. This is the only thing keeping me from making a purchase. Heh.

anyone knows if theres a big difference in sound from a magnaflow highflow cat compared to the stock cat? (just noise levels, not HP) thanks.
Re: Exhaust

This is the LSJ header.

This is the L61 header.

Those are the extensions that come with each of them too....i hope this helps you out....a simple search on the pacesetter website coulda done you wonders 2 or 3 days ago. The only difference in the actualy header is the primary size. now you see the difference in the downpipe too.

Thank you. I couldn't find it for my life. D'oh.

I wish I could find the LSJ header with that L61 piece...
Re: Exhaust

you can, its not that hard...but what other mods do you have or will you have to supports the header.

Also, you might want to find out emissions laws and things like that for your state, Like if there is a visual check, or just a sniffer, or if its only an OBD II check. Technically the LSJ header is not legal to install on a L61 in some (I think most) states because of emisions laws. The one I have just happens to have the CARB number for the jbody platform on it.

The LSJ and L61 have different diameter collectors as well as different diameter primaries.

Re: Exhaust

no they dont...i have seen both of them, the collectors are the same size. they both have 3 inch collectors...
