okay i have a 2001 cavalier with the 2200 and just recenly ive come accross a 99 chev malibu with the 2.4 in it. and was wanting to know what all i needed to do the swap or if it is possable any help will be appriciated! steve

Everything will need to be swapped over. Your better off buying a cavalier that already has the 2.4 motor.

I don't know where the motor mounts are on that Malibu, but it should be similar to a j-body's. You should be able to use the physical motor mount that you already have installed on the 2200. Once again, the lower may also be different on the Malibu, as we use a dog bone style lower mount. There is a bracket on the motor which you'd need if it doesn't have it, and your current engine subframe will still work.
Transmission wise - It will prolly have a 4t45e in it. Its not the same one which comes with a j-body, and you cannot re-use your old transmission due to different bell housing bolt patterns. I don't know if a 4t45e and 4t40e(in a j-body) have the exact same pin-outs on the electrical connection for the trans, let alone not throw any codes when you run it.
Wiring is completely different as well.
you would need an Engine wiring harness and PCM from a 00-02 J-body, then block off the EGR ports on the manifold and head of the 99.
It can be done, but like mentioned above, taking it from a j-body would be easier so you don't have to piece everything together.

cool!i guess ill just either stick to doing an 02 eco swap or try to find a 01 2.4.and if all fails just go all out with da ol 2200
just stick to the eco don't even try to find a 2.4

okay! good im on it well at least once im done ill have this site to sell of my ol 2200 and the header and catback plus the cold air intake to help with the swap.

agreed, i went from a 2.4 in my 01 to an eco.... MUCH MUCH happier
